Why am I seeing the name “BufMet Credit Union”?

BufMet Credit Union is a shortened, modern version of Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union. Members will begin seeing the updated name in communications, signage, and marketing as part of a refreshed brand look.

Is Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union changing its name?

No. The legal name remains Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union (BMFCU). “BufMet Credit Union” is simply a streamlined public-facing brand name used for everyday communication.

Did Buffalo Metropolitan FCU merge with another credit union?

No. This is not a merger. The credit union has not merged with, been acquired by, or bought another institution.

Has Buffalo Metropolitan FCU been bought out or taken over?

No. BufMet remains the same member-owned credit union that has served members since 1937.

Is anything changing with my account?

No. The following remain exactly the same:

• Account numbers
• Loans
• Routing number
• Online banking
• Mobile banking
• Direct deposits
• Automatic payments
• NCUA insurance coverage

Will my checks or debit/credit cards change?

No. Existing checks and cards will continue working normally. Future cards or checks may feature the updated BufMet branding.

Many members already refer to the credit union as “BufMetro.” The shortened name is easier to say, easier to remember, and reflects a modern, growing credit union while still honoring its history.

Will I still see Buffalo Metropolitan FCU used?

Yes. The full legal name will still appear on regulatory documents, contracts, statements, and official records.

Is BufMet Credit Union still member-owned?

Yes. BufMet remains a not-for-profit, member-owned credit union focused on serving members and the community.

What This Change DOES NOT Mean
